Hitting the Ground Running

Late March and here I am thinking that I’m putting my photography business together slowly. Ha! Jokes on me!

I’ve been a hobby photographer for at least 10 years and I thought I picked up the camera to photograph my daughter, now two of them. Instead, I found that I really enjoyed it and I began photographing everything I could, including a couple of elephant seals fighting on the beach along Pacific Coast Highway. You see, I love art, I love anything visually appealing and thought I might end up having a career in graphic design, painting, drawing, etc., but it all seemed too time consuming and too subjective.

After spending 13 years in the Marine Corps and not being able to become a “combat illustrator”, an MOS (Military Occupational Specialty for my non military folks), that in the early 2000’s was merged into combat camera resulting in my disappointment of having a career as an artist. Photography wasn’t even on my mind as possibility at the time. I guess it was a blessing in disguise because I retrained to become a weather forecaster and I loved that job! 10 years of forecasting and here I am, out of the Marine Corps, and going back to my original love.

I picked up a new camera in November of 2018 and I have been building my business portfolio. Five months later and I am once again photographing everything from newborns, to pets, to business owners, to real estate and cars, and right back to families and portraits. I can already see that 2019 is going to be a whirlwind.
